Oh boy, where to start with this company? I am speaking basically on my experience with the Saint John, NB location, since we've actually borrowed from this company in the past in Ottawa and had none of these issues. Most people know who Easy Home is, the place that'll let anyone "rent to own" furniture, appliances, etc. They started recently a new venture, loaning people money who otherwise can't get loans from conventional means like banks, due to credit issues. Great! In theory. We had a series of big events coming up, like weddings 16 hours drives away, wife being the maid of honor, etc. so we decided we would apply for a loan. I applied for a $4000 loan to both pay for the expenses of the wedding, and cover some bills, etc. I had to get a co-signer but was approved for the loan and received in a couple days later, which is their big selling feature.

I'm sure that things would've gone fine, had I not have had a change in my payment frequency in my job, going from twice a month to bi-weekly. I should also note, they are open the exact same hours I work, making it near impossible to get in there. I requested by email to change the payment dates, and received a response that they couldn't just change the payment date, myself and my co-signer would have to go in and sign some paperwork. I repeatedly explained to them that I can't get there since they're open the same hours I work, with no real response.

Then the bounced payments started. I live paycheck to paycheck. If you want your money, take it out when I get paid, and you'll get it. Otherwise, someone else got it. That's how my life works, I'm not proud of it, but it's what I got, and I explain this to everyone who demands money from me, these people were no exception. I would get emails from them, with the entire email in the SUBJECT line, asking me to call them, giving me a phone number, again, in the SUBJECT line, with an empty email body. I work in IT dealing with email filtering, spam management, etc. all the time...Want to know how to get an email to go to the junk folder? PUT EVERYTHING IN THE SUBJECT LINE, INCLUDING PHONE NUMEBRS! That'll do the trick.

At any rate, after about 6 missed payments, charges 6 times for NSF fees from both my bank and them, I had enough. I contacted their customer service department, which I never heard back from, until I received an email from the Saint John branch again, this time with an actual email in the body of it, explaining that they can use DocuSign and email the documents to myself and my co-signer. 3 MONTHS OF BOUNCING PAYMENTS, AND THEY HAD DOCUSIGN THE WHOLE TIME!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it so much so, that I didn't even bother to notice that they never, not once, offered to refund any of the extra money in NSF fees they've cost me because of this garbage.

Once I agreed to the docusign thing, they sent me a form, with nothing on it. I stared at it for a good 5 minutes, wondering in bewilderment if they could possibly have some kind of contagious brain-eating disease that only spreads to Easy Financial employees or something. So, after babysitting and hand holding them some more on what needed to be filled out on the form, I finally signed it. They actually took the payment out on the right date at least.

One thing they'll also try to sell people on, which is a scam, is the loan insurance thing. They claim it can be used if you lose your job to cover the loan. It can, but only if you happen to lose the job through circumstances out of your control, like getting laid-off. Other than that, it's useless. I pay $320/Month on this loan, and close to half of it goes to this insurance, meaning they continually charge extra interest every month, therefore making more money, because I'm not really paying anything at all on that $4000 loan.

I also noticed a troubling thing in all the emails going back and forth. Apart from one person, there was always different people working there, leading me to believe that the turnover is high, and it explains a lot about what happened to me with them, just a serious lack of understanding of their policies.

Be VERY aware of this company's promises, they're not necessarily false advertising, but very misleading. They did make it easy for me to get a loan, and it was in my bank very quickly, but it hasn't been without its' nightmares.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Monetary Loss: $200.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Location: Saint John, New Brunswick
